Knitting pattern, originally published on my web page. I can't find enough to write about to keep up a web page, so I'm moving all the items here.
Spindle/Travel bag Knit(crochet)
This is a simple, fairly open bag, designed originally to carry my spinning spindles in, but they can be used for any number of reasons! Just make sure that the bottom will support the items you are likely to carry in these, and if there is any special modifications needed, please, feel free!
Bottom up:
To start off with, I knit 8 stitches (either chain 2, then place 8 sc into the second chain, or 8 sc in a magic circle).
Then, it is only a matter of expanding the bottom to accomodate the width you prefer. My first spindle bag , with worste weight yarn and #7 double-pointed needles, finished expanding at 60 stitches, if I were doing this again, I'd add at least 8 more. The second one I'm making is going to have the 'pinwheel' knitting pattern, but do whatever looks best to you!.
The sides: simple Stockinette stitch (sc) around, until you reach the length desired. My bag is about a foot long in the main color.
Top: The top needs to cover the full circumfrence of the bag, in either method, for easy closing, plus a dozen rows if you wish a drawstring. For the drawstring, carefully stitch these rows, dividing them if wished- I did so I had ends to tie together- and then fold the top in, and stitch these so there is room for the string to move freely and tie.
